Early Life

Manuel Blum was born in Caracas, Venezuela on April 26, 1938. He came to the United States in the 1950s to study at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). There, while studying electrical engineering, he also worked in a neurophysiology laboratory, where he persued an interest in how the brain functions. He later earned a Ph.D. in mathematics.
